This article serves as a reference for adding detail to any amigurumi project. In my patterns, I like to add a and cheeks because they add a spark of personality!

It is possible that some item will be added to this article down the line if I find other interesting techniques related to amigurumi details or make other articles about it.

Smile

  1. Take a length of yarn and put it on your needle (for an amigurumi made with 6 weight yarn, I use a 4-weight yarn).
  2. Insert the needle in a stitch on the side of the body and make it come out where you want the right corner of your smile to be. Leave a tail about 4-5 inches long going out of the side of the body.
  3. Insert the needle where you want the left corner of your smile to be and make it come out between the 2 corners, one stitch below.
  4. Go through the same stitch again, making sure to trap the loop you just created. The needle should go out from the stitch in step 1.
  5. Make a knot with the two tails.
  6. Put both tails on your needle, make them go through the stitch they come out of and take them out a little further.
  7. Cut the yarn.

Cheeks

  1. Take a length of pink yarn and put it on your needle (for an amigurumi made with 6-weight yarn, I use a 6-weight yarn as well).
  2. Insert the needle in a stitch on the side of the body and make it come out where you want the right side of the right cheek.
  3. Insert the needle one stitch to the left coming out the stitch you were in (effectively just wrapping around the stitch once).
  4. Insert the needle once again one stitch to the left, but this time making it come out where you want the right side of the left cheek to be.
  5. Repeat step 3.
  6. Insert the needle once again one stitch to the left, this time making it come out the stitch you entered in step 1.
  7. Make a knot with the two tails.
  8. Put both tails on your needle, make them go through the stitch they come out of and take them out a little further.
  9. Cut the yarn.
