Introduction

I’ve seen a lot of ghost patterns floating around, especially during the Halloween. I thought it would be relatively quick to design, so I decided to give it a shot. After three iterations, I got a result that I am very satisfied with the result.

This pattern works up quickly and does not require too much yarn, so it is the perfect if you want to do a quick project!

Materials

  • 4.5 mm hook
  • Stitch markers
  • 6 weight yarn (in this pattern, Sweet Snuggles™ Lite Yarn by Loops Threads)
    • 35 g / 28 m
  • 14 mm safety eyes
  • Polyfill

Pattern notes

This pattern is worked in rounds, so it is important to mark the last stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

If no number is provided in front of a stitch, do one.

The pattern is using US terminology.

Terminology

  • R : round
  • (…) x n : do what is in the parenthesis
  • n times
  • YO : yarn over
  • inc : increase
  • dec : invisible decrease
  • st : stitch
  • ch : chain
  • slst : slip stitch
  • sc : single crochet
  • BO : Bobble stitch (instructions in annex)

Steps

Base

R1 : 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)

R2 : 6 inc. (12)

R3 : (sc, inc) x 6. (18)

R4 : (2 sc, inc) x 6. (24)

Cut the yarn, ch and pull the yarn through.

Here it is done:

Body

R1 : 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)

R2 : 6 inc. (12)

R3 : (sc, inc) x 6. (18)

R4 : (2 sc, inc) x 6. (24)

R5-R8 : 24 sc. (24)

R9: 4 sc, BO, 14 sc, BO, 4 sc. (24)

R10-R13 : 24 sc. (24)

Add the safety eyes between R5 and R6 7 sts apart and add the stuffing. I it easier to shape the ghost at this point and you can always add a little bit later when you are attaching the base.

R14: Attach to base using sc. Start with the next stitch of the body and the last stitch of the base. For more details on the method, please refer to the annex.

R15 : (5 sc in next st, sl st) x 12.

Cut yarn and weave in tail. To make it cleaner this is where I put the yarn needle first to close the little gap created by the last round.

Finally, I like to add a some details. I usually put some cheeks and sometimes a smile too! If you’d like some instructions on how to add those details, you can visit this article from my blog!

Congrats, you are all done! I hope you had fun making this little ghost, if you have any questions about the pattern, feel free to reach out by email filmignoncrochet@gmail.com or on my Instagram page!

Bobble Stitch

A bobble stitch is 5 double crochets together, so it is 5 double crochets in the same stitch, sharing the same stitch on top. Here are the steps and a little gallery after to help understanding.

  1. YO, insert hook in the st, YO pull though 1, YO pull through 2 (2 loops on the hook).
  2. YO, insert hook in the st, YO pull though 1, YO pull through 2 (3 loops on the hook).
  3. YO, insert hook in the st, YO pull though 1, YO pull through 2 (4 loops on the hook).
  4. YO, insert hook in the st, YO pull though 1, YO pull through 2 (5 loops on the hook).
  5. YO, insert hook in the st, YO pull though 1, YO pull through 2 (6 loops on the hook).
  6. YO pull through all 6 loops.

Attaching the base

To attach the base, you need to make sc taking in a stitch from the R13 and a stitch from the base. I like to start with the last stitch of the base. So for each stitch: Go through a st from R13 and the base, YO pull through 2 (2 loops on hook), YO pull through 2.
